Shugendō (修験道) is a 1500+ year-old syncretic religious path of training and testing combining elements of Esoteric-Buddhism, Mountaineering-Asceticism, Shinto and Taoism.
Shugendō is characterised by its periodic rituals of spiritual death & rebirth, pilgrimage, ascetic exercises, retreat and meditation practices.
The Koshikidake (甑嶽山) sect's home temple, Kannon-ji (観音寺), is located in Yamagata prefecture, Japan.  This is the site of a branch located in Meanjin (Brisbane, Australia).
